Since I started consulting this has equated to an average of 558hrs a year.

I prioritise local work, with organisations based or impacting the North West, because I want to do all I can to support improved social outcomes locally.

I started my own consultancy so I could not only choose to work with business and people that inspired me, supporting them to increase their impact, but also to make the time to invest in causes that are close to my heart. I've adopted the following four polices which enable me to increase my impact...

At least 20% of my working week is dedicated to unpaid work giving me new perspectives and supporting local organisations to further improve their impact.

At least 1% of my revenue is donated to non-profit organisations to support them to further grow their impact.

Although the core of my work, and the pro-bono support I offer, focuses on social impact. I make cash donations to Rewilding Britain and Liverpool Tool Library to support them to increase the positive environmental impact they have on the word.

I collaborate with freelancers based in the North West, with similar values to myself, contributing to the social impact ripple effects generated by spending locally.

To truly amplify social value, communities and stakeholders must be empowered and engaged in decision making. They must have a part to play in developing the spaces and activities which exist around them. I believe that this starts by nurturing grassroots ideas, giving Doers in communities the opportunity to succeed and, perhaps more importantly, learn when things don't quite go to plan. Micro-funding smaller, local ideas and projects is a great way to do this... That's why I've chaired the Liverpool SOUP Committee since founding the events early-2019 and was an active member of Awesome Liverpool from June 2019 to December 2023.

On a larger scale, having local people, in particular those from typically under-represented groups, within organisations and in a decision-making capacity is vitally important to enable strategies and operations to be designed in a away that is genuinely beneficial for local communities. This is why I advocate for increased diversity on Boards and at the age of 33 took up Non-Executive Director roles for both Kindred LCR and Sefton Park Palm House.
